Canonical Begins Modernizing Launchpad After Years of Neglect
Canonical has officially announced the start of a long-overdue redesign for its flagship development platform, Launchpad. The first phase focuses on the series page for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, as revealed by UX designer Enzo Deng on the company's blog.
"We have begun a complete redesign of the series page for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS," Deng stated. "This marks the journey of modernizing the Launchpad user experience."
Background
Launchpad serves as the central hub for Ubuntu development, hosting code, bug tracking, and packaging. Despite its critical role, many of its inner pages have remained largely unchanged since 2016, with the homepage receiving its last update in 2024.

Developers have long complained about the platform's dated interface and poor usability. The new effort aims to address those grievances, starting with the series page—a key tool for managing release milestones.

What This Means
The redesign signals a renewed commitment from Canonical to its developer community. While the series page is just one component, it serves as a test case for broader UI improvements across Launchpad.
"This is the first step in a larger modernization roadmap," Deng added. "We are listening to feedback and plan to roll out updates incrementally."
Developers can expect a cleaner, more intuitive interface with improved navigation and better support for mobile devices. The changes are expected to roll out gradually, with the first iteration targeting Ubuntu 26.04 LTS's release cycle.
