Carbon Brief Offers Paid Three-Week Summer Journalism Internship for Aspiring Climate Reporters
Breaking: Carbon Brief Launches Paid Summer Journalism Internship
Carbon Brief, the award-winning climate journalism platform, has announced a three-week paid summer internship for students and recent graduates. The placement, scheduled from 13 to 31 July, offers a rare opportunity to work alongside seasoned reporters and data visualisation experts in central London.

The internship is fully paid at the London Living Wage of £14.80 per hour, plus a £100 travel bursary. Successful applicants will split their time between Carbon Brief’s office near London Bridge and remote work.
What the Internship Involves
Interns will shadow staff across the editorial team, covering climate science, policy, China’s emissions, and more. They will also help produce Carbon Brief’s award-winning newsletters and create social media content.
Each intern will research, write, and publish at least one full article. They will also learn how the small, independent global team turns scientific papers and policy documents into accessible stories.
“This is a hands-on placement where interns become part of our newsroom,” said Associate Editor Daisy Dunne, to whom the intern will report. “They will see exactly how we interrogate data, craft narratives, and use visuals to explain complex climate issues.”
Skills and Eligibility
Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in climate change and some experience writing about technical topics for a general audience — even self-published work counts. Excellent spoken and written English is essential, and social media skills (Twitter/X, Instagram) are a plus.
Journalism experience is not required, but a commitment to journalistic integrity is. The internship is open to students and recent graduates based in or able to commute to London.

How to Apply
Applicants should send their CV and a short covering letter of no more than 300 words. The letter should explain why they are a good fit and how the internship would benefit them.
Complete details and the application link are available on Carbon Brief’s careers page. The deadline has not been disclosed — interested candidates are urged to apply promptly.
Background
Carbon Brief is a UK-based independent publication that covers climate science, energy, and policy. Its work is referenced by scientists, journalists, and policymakers worldwide. The organisation is known for its data-driven journalism and high-quality infographics.
This is the latest in a series of paid internships aimed at diversifying climate journalism. Previous interns have gone on to work at major news outlets and environmental NGOs.
What This Means
The internship offers a rare paid entry point into climate journalism, a field where early-career opportunities are often unpaid or inaccessible. It also helps Carbon Brief tap into fresh perspectives from young reporters.
For students worried about climate change and considering journalism, this is a direct pathway into the industry — without the usual financial barriers.
Dunne added: “We want to see what interns can bring to our coverage, whether that’s a new angle on carbon offsets or the human stories behind climate migration.”
